Day 2 – Arrowtown to Wanaka

Timelines: TONZ 2019

Sunday 2nd April 2017

Start time: 8.00am

Queenstown to Arrow Junction and onwards to Wanaka (82km).

You are starting today at the Steamer Wharf in Queenstown at 8.00am for a welcome by the Mayor and photographs. After which there is a neutral ride to Arrowtown. The congregation point in Queenstown will give riders time to complete registration and a chance to be welcomed by the Major, a photo opportunity for the U Tube production, and just one gorgeous place to start from.

From there you have a neutral ride to Arrowtown, from where you will be marshaled and started by our Timing Officials. The stage will be timed from Arrowtown to Wanaka. The ride is just 68 kms today but there is a serious mountain pass ahead of you. If you love climbing, this day will be a highlight. If you don’t, then take some time to enjoy the views on the way up, and perhaps stop for a photo at the Historic Cardrona pub, full of history and gold mining stories, on the way down!

First though, you will pass through the quaint and historic goldmining village of Arrowtown. The autumn colours will be breathtaking – if you can take a moment to enjoy them!

From the top, an incredible fast descent into Wanaka. Don’t think you won’t be working though! Finish at the Show grounds.

The Peloton Party and a well earned rest after two fabulous stages.
